Colnaghi’s reputation as a leading firm in the field of Old Master drawings was established during the course of the 19th Century. In the 1950s it was enhanced under the directorship of the renowned scholar James Byam Shaw, and the gallery became a meeting place for such passionate collectors as Sir Bruce Ingram and Count Antoine Seilern, who invariably found sheets to add to their collections. Colnaghi continues to offer among the best and most interesting drawings currently on the market. As a critic has recently written, our annual exhibitions have become ‘something of an institution, as eagerly awaited by lovers of drawings as Wimbledon by tennis fans’.
Katrin Bellinger is in charge of Old Master drawings at Colnaghi in London. With the help of Livia Schaafsma, she continues the tradition at Colnaghi, dealing in Italian, Dutch, Flemish and German old master drawings of the highest quality. The drawings team also provides expert opinions and valuations on drawings that are regularly brought in to the gallery by private collectors and amateurs. Colnaghi Drawings holds several exhibitions annually of old masters, nineteeth century and living artists as well a taking part in selected fine art fairs (see Fairs). A catalogue is always available upon request.
